Purchasing shoes and mattresses is not an easy process for me. I went to many different stores to try different kinds of mattresses and did a great deal of online research on customer satisfaction with mattress types and manufacturers.
Because I have always slept on firm or extra-firm tight top inner spring mattresses, I focused on the 3, 3.5 and 4 firmness levels. The second night I noticed that the mattress had become a bit firmer. The instructions ask that the mattress be allowed to expand for 48 hours.
My guess is that the firmness of the mattress base is affected by the expansion of the foam and the amount of air that goes into the foam and the latex top. To me this mattress does not feel like an inner spring, memory foam, or pure latex mattress.
The pure latex mattresses that I tried were a bit bouncy and very hard (even for my taste). I find that this Ultimate Dreams Latex Mattress does not require a topper.
